16mm: 16mm was the first film designed for amature use. It is a 16mm wide film that contains the audio track on the side. 

 

Regular 8: A smaller, less expensive amature film with no audio track designed for home use.

 

Super 8:  The technological successor to regular 8 film. It displayed a higher video quality than its predecessor.
